Project overview

VoltSecure was appointed to deliver the full electrical package at The Old Gas Works Site on Ferry Road, Cardiff. The project formed part of an exciting Passivhaus Plus development in Grangetown, providing 48 relocatable new modular homes across three apartment blocks alongside an office block.

The development included a mixture of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom flats, designed to provide high-quality temporary accommodation on the former Gasworks site. VoltSecure’s contract covered the full electrical works package, including communal areas, apartment testing, external lighting and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The challenge

This was a technically important project due to the nature of the development and the standards required. Passivhaus Plus developments place a strong focus on energy efficiency, performance and long-term building quality. The electrical installation therefore needed to be carefully coordinated with the wider construction team to support the overall performance of the buildings.

The site also included multiple apartment blocks and an office block, which meant careful planning was required across different areas of the development. Works had to be coordinated around the construction programme, other trades, modular building requirements and the final testing and handover process. External areas also required attention, including communal lighting, street lighting and electric vehicle charging stations.

The result

VoltSecure successfully delivered the electrical works for a significant modular housing development in Cardiff. The project demonstrates VoltSecure’s ability to deliver full electrical packages on multi-dwelling residential developments, particularly where sustainability, coordination and quality are key.

The works supported the creation of 48 new modular homes and associated office space, helping provide a practical and energy-efficient housing solution on a major Cardiff regeneration site.
